I went to get my car washed and detailed today in hopes to sell it later this week. I watched as the BMWs, Mercedes, and Lexus luxury cars were all in shock as my beautiful Scion rolled into the parking lot (obviously in need of the service they provided). I could tell when I stepped out, this was a little different world than I expected.
Pretty much the whole time I was in the shop, Shane was on his phone. Even while I was talking to him, the phone rang a handful of times (some ignored, guess I’m just that intriguing). Anyway, Shane caught my eye as I heard him talking about an environmental project he was trying to set up. I’m still not too sure exactly what he does, been I was interested enough to start up a little chat.
It was easy to see that Shane and I ran in two totally different circles. He’s in his early 30s, working his way quickly up the ladder, and with more money than I will probably see in my lifetime. I asked him a few questions about what he did, and it sounds like he had a genuine heart to help people and the environment. He asked me what I do. This is always a fun question. I still don’t fully know how to answer that. All I could say is that I’m in the process of giving up my life to bring hope to the hopeless.
This kind of took him off guard I think, but it opened up a lot of further questions. I told him that I do what I do because not only do I feel I can help people’s physical needs, but can bring about emotional healing as well as a renewed sense of purpose and this is all centered on Jesus. His response was simple, but still quite intriguing…
“There are two types of people in the world. Those that need and those that can provide. If you don’t need, you better provide for someone.”
He wasn’t totally in to the religious side of the conversation, but I’m ok with that. I can’t help but tell people why I do what I do. But he has heard the cries of those around him and he’s doing what he knows to help provide for them. I respect that.
I think more people are beginning to hear the cries of those in need and I can only hope they will answer them…
