So we jumped. And it was insane. Our free fall was 7 seconds long for 535 feet at 93 mph. Whoa. Janet and I only weighed 91 kg together. They said a third person could jump with us and still be within the weight limit haha. We wanted to be the only canyon swing in the world with three people hooked to one rope! But we didn’t :). Just me and Janet (she’s from Dallas too!)! It was CRAZY. Here are some pictures. We got a video too — from my headcam!!
just to clarify for my supporters, the canyon swing was purchased using personal money 🙂 //////
On my last blog I said that we were going to be working at a coffee shop for ministry. But we ended up not doing that. Our contact here said that there are three rules for handling ministry in Nepal. 1. Be flexible. 2. Be flexible. 3. Be flexible. Haha.
So instead we worked on the “construction team” for the week. We were at an English school called The Lighthouse. We sanded, plastered, sanded, primed, and painted every single room of the school! There were 3 classrooms, 2 offices, and 1 large meeting space. Then after we painted we used scrappers and towels to clean the tile. Why didn’t they wait to tile when the walls were painted? Sometimes things are backwards here. 🙂 It was such a blessing to help the ministry out who runs the school. The hours of labor all week we contributed would have cost the ministry loads of money! See pics here:
Oh! And check this out. One of the ministries had a guest visiting them — as soon as I saw him, I said he looked familiar. Turns out he lives in Garland, TX literally just a few blocks away from me!! I kept asking if he taught in any of the GISD schools or anything like that. But no. We couldn’t figure out any time we could have met besides random possibilities of seeing each other at the Walmart Neighborhood Market where we both get groceries. Crazy small world!
This month has been awesome. All-squad month means all 44 people have been together all month instead of splitting up into our teams. I have been able to get to know others better and work on teams with them. I have enjoyed it so much!!
Graham and I (Gratney!) did a lot of Logistics work this month, helping out the Squad Leaders (the two AIM staff who are with us during the Race). I will post a Logistics blog soon, I promise!
TRAVEL: we all get to Thailand Monday November 3. We stay the night in a hostel and then split off into teams to head to our ministry sites on Tuesday.
THAILAND: My team will be working at the Burma border with Burmese refugees. We’ll be working mainly with the women and children. We will be running a coffee and consignment shop, teaching Bible studies, and teaching English. We are excited!
I’ll blog again from Thailand at least once.
After Thailand, we will spend December in Laos. Because Laos is a closed country, I have to put a password protection on my blog starting November 15 until we leave Laos around January 1. My blog password will be whitneyinasia
Oh! And when you leave a Comment on my blog, make sure to click the box that says “send me reply alert notifications” or something like that. I reply to every single comment that I get and I realized that y’all aren’t notified unless you click that box!
Love y’all much! I cannot believe we are nearing month 3. This is flying by! They say it’s the fastest and slowest year of your life. August will be here before we know it!
