Abandonment.

It looks like an ocean, and you are floating, alone, with all your lifelines cut. There is no way to get back to the boat, no anchors holding you in place. It is just you, in this vast ocean. The lifelines of popularity, acceptance, comfort, beauty, the things that you think complete you, they are gone. You feel lost for a while. You wonder if you will float, swim or drown. You have to find your worth, your identity in something that is solid. Something eternal.

The ocean is God, his grace is covering you, splashing over your face, enveloping you. He invites you to come test the waters. Come play, my child, come splash, and dive and swim in my glory. Explore the depths of my love for you. It surrounds you. It consumes you.

Slowly, you dog paddle out, trying it, testing the waters, and it is good. It is fun, it is freeing! You laugh, playing with your Daddy, your Creator. Slowly, you grow more confident in your strokes, swimming with more confidence the further you go.

In one part of the ocean, you discover Identity. Identity is filled with crowns and jewels, like a ship wrecked there and left all these treasures. The treasures are yours, because you are His heir and He is crowning you with the glory of the inheritance. He is lavishing you in the knowledge that you are His daughter, His Son.

Another part is Destiny. Here Daddy is teaching you that by walking into your inheritance, you are fulfilling your destiny. It is a kingdom, and you are sharing it with others. You are bringing them in, showing them what your Daddy has given you, and inviting them to Come, and bring others. There is plenty of room here for all, and all are invited.

You go deeper, deeper into the ocean and Daddy shows you Gifts, and Power. He equips you, the further you dive, the deeper you seek. He shows you Himself, and Glory. You marvel at the wonders of this ocean, and you find your security in knowing that your Daddy is good, and He gives good gifts to His children.

You surface, looking around. Your old comforts, gossip, lies and bitterness are gone. The things you once found your identity and beauty in are no more. In their place is a shining princess and her Daddy is looking at her and smiling. “There she is. There is the one I created. Look at her glisten.”

So swim. Swim into the ocean and play with your Daddy. Dive into the depths and discover the riches and beauty lying just beneath. Cut the lifelines holding you back and swim freely. Become the one He created you to be.

Let go.
