Well golly gee, I just realized that I never actually wrote a blog about my current relationship status. Here goes:
'Twas the night before the Super Bowl, when all through cheese head state
Not a family member was sharing, for the surprise’s sake;
Of the plans made with great care,
In hopes that Jessica’s new jewelry soon would be there;
The couple was headed towards their fate,
While their family headed to the sight of their first date;
And Jess in her vest, and I in my mine too,
But she wouldn’t see mine until Act Two,
When out in the front there arose such a ruckus,
Jess sprang from the table as I watched her tuckus.
Away from the table she saw to her surprise,
Her family and friends arriving before her very eyes.
The thoughts of her head swirled on inside
I pulled her away with the intent to confide,
That, to her curious ears she did hear,
Why everyone was gathering in this spot for a beer,
Was for a going-away party just for her,
That arose in her moisture-filled eyes such a stir.
"Now, Mom! now, Friend! now, Brother and Dad!
There’s, Aunt! and Pastor! and, Neighbor, I’m glad!
To the front of the restaurant! To make one last call!
Now walking behind her, in front of them all!"
I threw off my hoodie to show my formal attire
A vest and a tie; my heart was on fire
I held her close and tried not to cry,
But the words from my mouth did not easily fly,
I said something about “God” and “being in relationship with you,"
With practice runs done, I knew what to do.
I knelt down and pulled out of my sock
One, not yet insured, glistening diamond rock.
As I looked in her eyes, and said the classic words,
There wasn’t a harp or flittering birds
There was a smile that said more than enough,
That said she wanted to go through the fun and the tough;
She said “yes” and jumped in my arms,
No lucky rabbits foot or bracelet of charms.
Just love—the blissful kind we all hope to find,
The kind that we know will last the test of time.
We sat down after any more pictures we couldn’t take

And for dessert, served was a well decorated cake.
We made people slightly throw up when we kissed,
but tears also flowed because she’d be missed
For in three days we’d move to the South
Much more often I’d be able to plant one on her mouth.
Everyone done eating “tortilla, cheese, and your choice of meat”
They scurried to cars, but we dragged our feet.
After the cars left, the last one out of sight,
We whispered the words, “I love you!” Wow, what a night.
