While
chatting with a friend this morning the realization hit me:

God is exciting.

Selah.
(Stop.  Pause.  Reflect.)

No
really.  Stop, pause, and reflect on that
reality.

God is
exciting.

Yes, God is
the Loving Redeemer, the Righteous Lamb of Atonement, and the Manifestation of
Grace and Mercy.  But God is exciting? I
try to avoid ambiguous terms such as “interesting,” “neat,” and “cool,” but the
vague seems so appropriate here.  Please
note:  No lines have been drawn in order
to read between.  It doesn’t say,
“Because God is exciting; therefore, my life is exciting.”  Just, “God is exciting.”

God is
exciting enough for nearly every child at the Cambodian Hope Orphanage to wrap
their arms around me and my teammates before we even knew their names,
literally.  Titles such as Brother and
Sister are not only sufficient, but they are appropriate and endearing.

God is
exciting the morning you feel lost and confused and He prompts your mother to
email a verse she was given almost ten years ago to the day that are the
perfect words for the time, situation, and persons involved.

God is
exciting to the point that a Cambodian that I’ve never met before prayed for me
at New Life Fellowship church with such emotion that my reeling mind had to be
balanced by his steadfast heart.

God is
exciting to witness in others as they approach other men and women, in whom
they share covenant, with honor and respect even after they’ve been wounded.

God is
exciting as a child grasps the simplicity of the gospel in a moment and a
theologian simultaneously wrestles with its complexity for a lifetime.

God is
exciting when he puts men as roommates at the YWAM base for two days that you’ll
never see again but because of them you’ll never see the same way again.

God is
exciting when he, with a slow and patient hand, weaves a thread of
understanding and compassion to seal off wounds of the past and bring about
healing and freedom.

God is
exciting when the earth throbs for justice and fists are clenched in anger
because sometimes we have to wait in ignorance, yet not disillusionment, that
he will redeem, restore, and use the evil acts of man for His good.

God is
exciting when family is thousands of miles away and longings for home are not
quenched by Skype, because He uses our discomfort to sharpen our character.

God is
exciting when I go to bed at night because He penetrates the breadth of my
unconscious, the intricacies of my thoughts, and the deepest parts of who I am.

Selah.

I would love
and feel honored if you finished the following sentence with a life realization
as well.

God is
exciting…
