What’s It Like?

4 months down on the race: Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia. With a recent shift in continents we are now in Japan. Being a Squad Leader has been an incredible experience up to this point. The majority of what I’m doing out here is investing, empowering, and simply being a vessel for Pops to have His way. I’ve been able to watch racers’ lives change right before my eyes and it’s extremely humbling to have a part in that. Most of the things I do are behind the scenes and at times people on the outside have no idea that I’m actually the “leader”. I have absolutely loved seeing my squad in pursuit of Christ.

To add to this I wanted to share some logistical details of what it has looked like as a squad leader on The World Race. And this is really just touching the surface…

Travel:

4 countries, 18 different cities, 10 of which I’ve done ministry in, with 10 different teams

I’ve lived in the freezing cold desert, the jungle, beach towns, historical cities, a city of 10 million, the slums, and the hood of Colombia (where 5 people were murdered in our neighborhood alone during our month)

28 different beds slept in

I’ve spent 192.5 hours on buses, that’s 8 days

Communication:

Connected to 44 wifi networks (Macbook alone) on which I’ve received a total of 862 work related emails

weekly skype calls back to the office

I’ve also read 488 pages of “Challenges and Celebrations”: weekly individual summaries of where the racers are spiritually, physically, and emotionally

3 squad debriefs where we raised up new squad leaders, made team changes, and welcomed new coaches

For Fun:

I’ve had the pleasure of putting down 5 bags of coffee (this is a personal one, I love my coffee)

2888 photos taken (Canon only)

grew my hair out, got a pony tail, and then cut it

Not So Fun:

Personally:

one WR phone stolen

one Canon 60d broken

two hats lost

Squad:

iphones, ipods, macbooks, cameras, money, passports, bags, Bibles, necklaces stolen (ohh South America…)

Adventure:

5 beaches visited

one volcano hiked at 15,400 ft.

2 different trips to the jungle

a fun day to the world’s largest salt flats and a train cemetery

5 historical towns explored

2 of the world’s largest cathedrals seen

South America is a wild place! The World Race is a crazy trip! Life is a grand adventure!

Support Update:

I’m about $500 from being fully funded and looking for a few more monthly partners at $10, $25, or $50. If interested in joining up send me an email at [email protected]  or click the “Partner With Me” tab on the left side of this page.

Thanks again to everyone back at home praying for my squad and I!
