There I was, on my last ounce of grip, hanging from the corner atop the city tower. I couldn’t believe it all had come to this. My quest for power & greed had boomeranged, hitting me in the face like a raging fire that had been closed up for many years before. As I sat there dangling on my last ounce of hope, I look beneath me unto the city, seeing all the destruction I had caused. From afar I could hear the painful cries of every distraught city citizen being let out from the inner city grounds.
In the beginning I had never planned on hurting anyone or destroying anything, except stealing the top spot from the neighborhood superhero himself. I figured if I could gain power then the easily persuaded citizens of the city would turn & follow me. I didn’t expect my antics to get this messy & led to everything it was never meant to be.
There were a couple thoughts in my head at that moment: “I could never repay all the people & families I had harmed” & “things could never go back to the way they were”. There was only one thing that seemed right at that present time: loosen my grip & let go; this would make the city a better place.
As I closed my eyes & let go, my wrist was suddenly engulfed by the presence of an unfamiliar hand. I could slowly feel myself elevating upward as if I had been floating. As I opened my eyes, my feet firmly planted on the pavement atop the city tower building, the sight before me was almost unreal.
There standing before me was the neighborhood superhero & he had just saved my life. After all the terror & harm I had caused to the once beautiful city that crumbled beneath us, he stopped me from giving up.
I asked why & the neighborhood superhero replied, “there is so much good in you that hasn’t been used, you just need someone to hold you accountable for sharing that good to the world. I have forgiven your actions towards me & I am now giving you the opportunity to walk with me & assist me in restoring this city’s founding beauty. Do you accept? If your answer is yes, let’s get to work.”
