Oh Mozambique!
I've always dreamed of coming to Africa, It has always been on my heart & one of my dreams. Now that I am actually here, it is everything I thought it would be: Dirt roads with children playing in dirt & puddles in their underwear, women walking around with pretty long skirts & carrying heavy things on their heads, driving that leaves no mercy for pedestrians, bucket showers, squatty potties (except at my hosts home we have a "normal" toilet), water is cherished & does not go wasted, friendly faces & generous hospitality, heavy rainfalls, beaming hot sun that leaves you dripping in sweat & sun burnt within a small amount of time, people selling things in the streets & amongst traffic, having to sleep in mosquito nets due to the crazy amount of mosquitos & to try to avoid malaria, lots of people bunched together on the back of a truck or squeezed in a bus= no personal space, & lots of dancing at church during worship. Africa is exactly what I expected it to be, not saying living here is easy, cause it takes more effort & tests your patience more; but the simplicity of it is freeing & respectable. The people here work hard for their food, they prepare meals from scratch & they may have little but they give a lot. I feel my time here is a time to acknowledge my MANY blessings, & to learn what it means to really appreciate all that I have & to be more generous. My prayer is that God will give me a heart that is willing to learn, grow & change & take this experience home with me. I have always dreamt of coming to Africa & God blessed me & made that dream come true! I love Africa!
