I am loving ministry this month, my team “Amaranthine” is helping out at an outreach that our contact hosts (Anna & Filito) do in the markets in Maputo, Mozambique. I really love the outreach they do, about 3 times a week they carry heavy speakers & equipment into their trailer that they pull behind their vehicle, which is also their stage & they go into the markets where people are shopping & selling things or just hanging out & they preach the gospel using microphones & drawing people in by enjoyable worship music that makes you want to dance! During this time Filito preaches in Portuguese & we just dance with the people & when he asks who wants to accept Jesus, then we pray over them. It came to a point where people who had to work in the market during all this got upset because we weren't walking around & praying with them, so Filito told us & we all walked through the market praying for whoever wanted prayer. It was encouraging to me to see how many people responded to the gospel message Filito spoke, & how many people wanted prayer so badly that they would wave at us to come over to them to ensure that we saw them & wouldn't forget. At the first outreach we went to, a guy was sitting in a bar across the road drinking & he got up left his drink & friends at the bar & came and accepted Christ into his life. After anyone accepts Christ, Filito & his sister encourage them & invite them to church to ensure that they have the opportunity to grow in their faith. It is a bit challenging doing ministry when you don't understand the language nor can you really talk with locals due to the language barrier, although, we can still pray over people & have the prayers be in English & still be effective. One of the past outreaches 3 of us decided to embrace the freedom to dance, yes we probably looked like fools, but really being in a foreign country I really didn't care! Yes, people would stare at us like crazy & were probably thinking crazy thoughts about the random white girls dancing like crazy around the market, then we'd come across people who would join in & dance along with us & it made everything worth it. This month in-between days of outreach we also walk around the village with Filito's sister & go to each person's house in the church to pray with them & pray for protection & good health. December is a particularly hard month for them; it's a month of lots of sickness & death. I am loving this months ministry, I had a desire in my heart to do "street evangelism" at some point on this trip & this month is pretty close, since we get to pray with people in the markets. I am praying this is a stepping stone for more street evangelism in countries to come. It’s just an area in my faith I want growth in & I want to be able to know that during this trip I shared the gospel with someone & helped lead them to the Lord. Back in South Africa our place of ministry gave us all Bibles, so I am holding onto that Bible & waiting to give it away to someone after I share the gospel with them; praying for this opportunity.
On a side note: I am getting very behind in blogging as access to internet has been close to impossible this month & even when we have access it often runs very slowly. So I apologize to all my supporters & followers for not continually sharing what’s happening on the mission field. I am hoping to catch up on blogs as soon as we have steadier internet access. Thanks!
