I asked my husband, Wayne (who’s 28) what we should say in our intro here, and all he would say was
“HEWWO!”
so, with that said…we’re Wayne & Codie Mask, we were born with traveling bones, free spirits, and have a deep rooted passion for spreading the gospel & love of Jesus around the world.
I, Wayne, am led by a merciful, compassionate personality and my desire is to help those in need. I also love apologetics and simple living. My wife says that I might be a little too extreme sometimes when it comes to my non-violent persona. Some of my role models include Shane Claiborne, Gandhi, MLK Jr. and William Lane Craig. I play in a band and music is a major, major part of my life, it’s just how I talk to God… My heart is, and has long been for my brothers and sisters who are, simply put, poor… Those who lack physical needs like food, water, clothing and shelter, but also those who are spiritually poor – the millions upon millions of people who have yet to hear the Gospel. My being aches with the desire to love these people, my brothers and sisters, to Christ. I believe, er, I know that Codie and I have been blessed beyond measure -not so that we may live abundantly, but so that we may give – joyfully – to those who have nothing. We have not only been blessed with material things or money, but also with love and opportunity; overflowing with the Love that Christ has shown us and the opportunity to take that Love to the ends of the earth. I believe Christ, in the Great Commission, is not merely asking us to do this, but commanding it.
And I, Codie, am goal-oriented, passionate for learning, I really DO love to run, and I’m loud. I have a Bachelor in Religious Studies, and a minor in American Sign Language. I love to read and write, but don’t have time for it. I am excited about the race because I think American culture traps us in a cycle of work and laziness, I can’t wait to get back overseas. India holds a special place in my heart, and I can’t wait to see Elephants in Thailand I strongly believe in the call to “go” spread the gospel, and I strongly believe in community as laid out in Acts when the first church was established. I’m a fan of Shane Claiborne, David Platt, CS Lewis, Francis Chan, and Rob Bell. I like creative thinking and challenging the norm. I’m all about digging deeper and going back to the basics and figuring out what it really means to follow Jesus. For many years now it has been the desire of my heart to travel overseas and spread the gospel, but ever since college, I haven’t really seen how or when this would be possible. The need is so great. At the beginning of the year the Lord laid this opportunity on my heart, so I prayed and I shared it with my husband – we prayed together and we took a step of faith and applied. We felt called into this opportunity, and decided that if we were accepted then we would go, and here we are! I strongly believe in the call to take the gospel to the ends of the earth, and believe that my husband and I are called to be a part of the group of people who actually go.
