The question of the hour these days seems is, So what are you going to be doing when you get home? For the most part, I dont have a clue. Which is fine because I know the Lord will let me know when I actually need to know. The World Race has been amazing at every turn, even though the very hard times. It has been probably one of the most life changing experiences I have ever had and am so thankful that I got to be part of this journey. So in thinking of heading home, honestly, I would like to chill out for at least a small amount of time. Eat a lot of Chickfila. Hang out with my Dallas family (the Porch) and my amazing small group. Go see my parents and my extended family. Basically take a breath.
Yet, we are the church and there is a crisis in the world right now. It is in Haiti. On January 12th, a massive earthquake hit Haiti with a 7.0 magnitude. The Haitian Government reports that between 217,000 and 230,000 people have died, an estimated 300,000 injured, and an estimated 1,000,000 homeless. This is a crisis without question.

The World Race is sending a team there for the month of June to be light and shine it in this dark place. I started to pray about it and felt like the Lord was saying yes to going. How did I arrive at that place? Simple. There is a crisis in the world. We are the church. The church is God’s answer for all the worlds brokenness. Reason enough. I can go. So why should I not go?

Mark Driscoll did a special sermon while he was in Haiti. I really encourage you to listen to it and hear about how deep the crisis there it. http://www.marshillchurch.org/media/special/32-hours-the-church-in-haiti

So on June 1, I will be getting on a plane again with 6 other people from iSquad and a lot more to go to Haiti for the month to do relief work and be a part of bringing light to a nation in darkness and ruin. The beauty of this is that we worship a living God who can the worst and redeem it into something beautiful. Throughout history, God has a way to saying in a powerful way that when its over, its not really over. The Kingdom of God is alive and powerful and the next immediate step for me will be going to the nation of Haiti to play a small part in the huge story of a glorious God who desires to bring abundant life to a nation trapped in darkness.

Some of us have joked about how the US seems like month 12 for May, and Haiti is month 13, and we should pray about where month 14 on the Race will be. Even though this has been good for some laughs, there is some amazing truth in it. I really did not sign up for a mission trip. God is calling my life to be missional and that does not terminate when I land in LAX at the end of April. It continues every day and the calling over all of our lives in to live for eternity in everything we do. We do not belong to this world. Our citizenship is in heaven and true abundant life is found in losing our lives for the cause of an eternal kingdom that really is the only thing that matters at the end of the day. So let us all give our lives for what is ultimate in this world and never look back. Bring Kingdom
For People
For the Nations
For the Kingdom
