We arrived in Nicaragua on Wednesday and I could honestly not be more excited about this month and all the Lord has for us. This month we are teamed up with Team Abandon this month and the 12 of us will be here until the end of the month.
Nicaragua is nation that is plagued by poverty. It is currently listed as the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. 48% of the population in Nicaragua live below the poverty line and 79.9% of the population live with less than $2 per day.
And while the vast majority has no clue about the Gospel, God is doing mighty things here. The battle began pretty much as soon as we got off of the bus. There was this older man who came up to us and asked us what we were doing here (12 white Americans with huge backpacks tend to not be the norm around here). When we told him that we were missionaries here to share the love of Christ, he proceeded to chew us out about trying to destroy the Catholic Church and bringing division. Good times. Roman Catholicism is fairly prevalent here and people have no understanding of the Grace of the Lord Jesus.

We are blessed to be serving with New Song Ministries this month here in Chichigalpa. New Song Ministries is amazing and I have been blown away with their hearts for the community. Tommy and Linda started doing mission work here seven years ago and moved down here full time 2 and a half years ago. Tommy was leading a church in America and walked away from it to answer the call to advance the Kingdom here. They started a church with a passion for the Kingdom and the Lord is moving mightily.

We have a chance to partner with them in reaching the youth of this area, serving the poor, community development, provide health care, sending out door to door prayer and evangelism teams, helping train up local pastors, teaching English, helping local families through child sponsorship, and that is just the tip of the ice berg.

New Song has a huge amount of  children and teens that are at the church/ community center every night that are growing greatly in the Lord and being discipled with a passion for the Kingdom of God in their community. Below is a video of some of the ministry that is going on here with New Song.
