My team got the chance to work with a children's organization this past week. It is a place for children to come to a safe place after school to do homework, learn skills like good hygiene. They all bush their teeth and wash their hands before they come in. They also come to participate in fun activities and teachings.
Most of these children come from rough homes. As a volunteer, a person can help for one day or multiple. They also have a hostel volunteers can stay at to be connected with them.
Before going into my thoughts, let's start at the beginning. Before arriving in Cusco Peru my team heard God tell us, we will be working with children especially those in broken homes. Not necessarily working with a Christian ministry organization. After a couple days in Cusco, Forrest and I were waiting for the rest of our team in the city square.
A woman named Clemon approached us. She told us that her hostel was holding a barbeque. She handed us a flier and told us the barbeque was on Thursday and for 10 soles. Forrest put the flier in his pocket and we didn't think much of it. As we were walking to find Joshua, Forrest stopped and exclaimed to me to look. He had the flier out again but was reading the back. It revealed to us a children's organization we could volunteer with. The rest of the team was just as excited. We went to the barbeque that week to get more information. Since it was Easter we couldn't help until the next week.
The first day, I got to help set up the activity. Which was primary and secondary colors. I relearned Espanol colors while writing in English. I also got to learn the Quechua language. I, along with 2 others, helped a student with trigonometry. Since I like chemistry I was volunteered to help with math. (Like those are the same thing or something)
The next day was making dinosaurs out of clay. I didn't do the activity but I helped one student with elementary math. chemistry majors = good at math?
I also helped with a literature project.
In all I enjoyed the time in Peru and the time we spent with children. I loved to see the joy my team had all those days and playing with children. It is sad we only got a short time with them.
I am about to leave Peru and have a full travel day to Barcelona Spain. We get a few hours in Atlanta and New York before getting to Spain. Please pray for safe travels.
Also the end of this month is our final deadline for our total amount. I still need about 2000 to be fully funded. If you feel lead to give monthly or a single amount please click on the donate button at the top. Once I'm fully funded I will be set to stay all remaining 9 months. Thank you for your support.
