On one of the first days of our stay in Sunyani, Ghana, we met a wonderful lady! Her name is Mercy. That morning before heading out to evangelize, my team and I met up at Elim City Church and began with a short prayer for the day. During that prayer God spoke to us about Mercy. We saw visions of a small footbridge, a woman cooking at a roadside food stand and …cows! She was happy and laughing but then was crying…

We began walking and literally just trusting Holy Spirit to direct our steps, roads and turns. We came to a T-intersection and spotted some cows along the road! We then saw a small wooden footbridge going over a water system type ditch. That little footbridge led to a corner where we saw a woman cooking at a stand!! She greeted us with such joy and laughter and welcomed us! Got us a bench to sit on and we began chatting.

We let her know how we ended up there and she began sharing her story… This is when we found out she had lost her parents and her husband. She’s been struggling with her stand business and sometime would get just one customer a day and would have to throw away the rest of her food… As she began to tear up a bit, she told us how she’s been feeling very alone and just really was wanting God to come through…

We prayed for her and during prayer God laid on my heart to share with her Psalm 146:9 “The Lord watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.” After sharing with her, she told us how she’s been having different attacks of the enemy in her life. We prayed once more and then just spent some time with her. Also, after we prayed, during our stay there (about 1 hour) she had 5 customers come by!!! …from the average few that come by through out the whole day! Praises to God for that answer to prayer!!

While we just hung out, one of my teammates Chelsy began a conversation with her… Chelsy learned that one of Mercy’s dreams is to have her own restaurant one day. A place where people can come to her stand, have a place to sit and rest while they eat her food.

Seems like a far fetched dream right? WELL, WITH GOD IT IS POSSIBLE!! Chelsy began a fundraiser for Mercy hoping we can get at least something to get her started… we ended up raising about $300 USD – 1,320 Cedis (Ghanaian currency) in about a week. This was enough to get her restaurant awning built, pay for labor for the strangers that came by to help, buy a table and a couple chairs and a new stand (that she ended up getting after our departure from Ghana). Thanks to those who responded to this fundraising request for Mercy!! Mercy was blessed immensely!! We didn’t think it would all come to be this way… But, God had a plan!!

Through this, I saw how God will do what it takes to make sure His children are loved and taken care of… there are no limits for our Father!! I mean, come on, He sent His only Son for us!! John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” …limitless LOVE!

Below is a video of our first interactions with Mercy, the process and the end result with a few words from Mercy… blessings!!
