So here I am Christmas Day in Africa. Yup, Christmas down in Africa. Oh and by the way, the people here say that it’s Dec 15, 2011; that’s their calendar.

Dear Africa,

I had so many different imaginations of what you would be like – hot and dusty, really you’re cold and dusty. Well, “cold” is like 65 degrees and maybe 50 in the morning.

I didn’t realize the beauty you would possess. The rolling hills and mountains, I didn’t expect mountains.

I also didn’t realize that we would be in the middle of nature and getting to live with 28 children and house mothers. I am blessed by you all.

I love waking up and enjoying the company of the house cooks in the kitchen – they make my day!

You are so easy to love. I enjoy being a part of making the trade center happen and taking care of the gardens.

I didn’t realize all of which I would get to be a part.

Dear Africa, you weren’t what I expected…and I’m so thankful.

Love,
