One thing that hasn’t changed on the race is my excitement about meeting people across the nations and hearing their testimonies. Hearing how they met Jesus and seeing the transformation in their lives brings me so much joy. Our host this month is one of those examples.
He was born in this village that we are staying in. At a young age, he moved to live with his aunt because of the violence that was going on at home. Once an adult, he began a career as a tuktuk driver. One day he drove a YWAM, Youth With A Mission, team to church and they invited him in. He saw something different in them and desired what they had. Long story short, he began his walk with the Lord. He studied at YWAM and felt strongly called by the Lord to go back to his village to minister there. He had an American girlfriend who wanted him to move to the States but passed that opportunity up to instead be obedient to what the Lord wanted him to do. People were appalled by the fact that he would give up an opportunity to move to the States and instead move to a village where there were no jobs and no other Christians.
In the last ten years, he has started a church, two schools, a soccer team and a devotional program for youth. The devotional program focuses on teaching them about God, and provides them with guitar and singing lessons. He has also started a coconut oil and soap business. Through his coconut business he is able to support his family and neighbors as well as his teachers since a lot of the students go to school for a reduced cost. The students he has employed for soap making are also saving up to go to university. He has a huge heart to see the gospel transform his family and neighbors.
Because of his obedience to the Lord, this village now has hope and a future.
