One of my former high school students – a sensitive baller named John Hwang – shared a devotion last Spring, and I would like to share excerpts of it with you now.

You know, it’s funny how God speaks to us sometimes.  I’ve spent hours praying to God, but I usually never get a direct response.  Most people don’t.  Nonetheless, God has spoken to me in amazing, yet impressively subtle ways.  For example, God knows I like Reebok, but He chose to speak to me through a Nike advertisement one day.

Okay, so just imagine this: a HUGE poster on the side of a building with a black background and a picture of Lebron James stretching out his arm real high, you know, his famous “statue of liberty” dunk.  To the left of Lebron, there are these four little words: We Are All Witnesses.

It kind of got me thinking. Why did Nike choose to say that for this advertisement?  What is it that makes us witnesses?  The obvious: Lebron James is just that amazing.  At such a young age he has accomplished so much and become so great that it’s difficult to ignore.  [If we see him perform on the court, then] we are witnesses to this ridiculous dunk!

As Christians, we are all witnesses.  Just like basketball fans all over the world, we’ve seen, heard, or experienced something amazing. That “something amazing” is God’s love.  God has touched our lives in incredible yet different ways.  We witness miracles happening each day, and we should gladly share God’s love with others.

Yes, Lebron James is great, but you see, God is greatnessThat alone makes us witnesses.

Look at me, and I think you’ll see just an ordinary kid on the block.  (I sure can’t dunk like Lebron!)
It’s only by the grace of God that I can [share with you] today.  And God didn’t just choose me, He chose all of us.
He wants each and every one of us to be His witnesses, to shine His light through our lives. This is our purpose: to bring hope to our generation and light to this world.

How have YOU witnessed God’s love in action?!
