As [the Chinese students] saw [us] Americans walking up, they crowded around us, and we all had our own circles of conversations.  These Chinese students were so excited to practice their English.  It was so fun, and a bit overwhelming…  Two girls my age walked up to me smiling, and one of them said to me, “Can you tell me what you know about Jesus?”  I was so stunned.  I said, “Of course.”  They told me they had met an American on their campus who told them about Jesus a few weeks prior…and they wanted to know more.

I read this a few months ago in a blog post by Colleen Foley (World Race September 2007), and it became my prayer regarding our time in China.  I knew that God was already working there, priming hearts for our arrival, and I was eager to see how He would use us.

And use us He did!

For a couple of weeks in mid-November, my Team Aletheia, Team Libre, and Team Quake participated in a Cultural Exchange program at a university in China* For the safety of the students and our ministry contacts, I cannot give many specific details or post photos of people.

(But scroll down to see “cultural” photos!)
Every morning, we had a lesson about language, history, music, etc, and every evening, we hosted English Corner.  This was how we met the Chinese students and started building relationships.  In the afternoons, we built on those connections, inviting the students to play, eat, and chat with us.

I was surprised and delighted by the BOLDNESS of these Chinese students.  In addition to the repetitive, “Where are you from?” and “Do you like Chinese food?” kind of questions, I also was asked, “How do you define the good life?” and “What do you do when you feel confused and depressed?” — talk about obvious opportunities to share my beliefs about God!

Many seeds were planted, and a few students chose to accept Jesus as Lord of their lives.  Hallelujah!  China has a large unreached population, so please PRAY for continued growth.
