That was our job title last month at Casa Shalom in Bucharest, Romania:
Maintenance and Grounds Crew.

I guess director Becky was inspired by the great work we did during the Extreme Home Makeover in the village the first week.  Or maybe it’s that spring cleaning itch that many people get.

In any case, there was a lot to do, and we did it.

Mostly, we did yard work.

But we also repaired bicycles and put together furniture items.

Then, on top of normal maintenance, Becky received a shipment of donated goods from her mission organization in Germany.  So we unloaded the truck, and sorted through the boxes.

… okay, so it’s not all work and no play – we did give in to the temptation to try on the awesome clothes.  We celebrated with some superhero themed worship time!

Finally, we painted and set up the site to host a Festival and Thrift Store Extravaganza, hoping to raise support for the Casa Shalom ministries.

I am learning that “ministry” can mean a lot of different things. It looks different everywhere we go, and it’s never quite what I expect.  But it’s good to see all these different sides.  Advancing God’s Kingdom is the most important thing, but daily life happens in the meantime.
