Each summer, I like to travel to visit friends – preferably in exotic locations.
And this summer, I got to do a lot of that, plus a lot of relaxing at home.
It has been very refreshing!
I wish I could have visited more people –
especially Joy and my friends in California (some of whom have recently gotten married or had babies) –
but there’s always next year…
Enjoy these photos
(unfortunately, not everyone who made this summer great is pictured):
In late June, I visited Jenny (a friend from Korea) and her family in Oregon.
In July, I went hiking and rafting with Andrea & Kirk (friends from Korea) near Lake Tahoe.
In early August, I met my incredible World Race squadmates at training camp in Georgia.
In late August, my childhood friend Catherine showed me around New York City:
visiting museums, shopping, and seeing shows.
Then I met up with my college friend Carrie to visit Ellis Island
and to discuss religious, political, and environmental issues.
I took the train down to historical Philadelphia to see Ben Franklin.
I ate a real philly cheese steak with Sara (a friend from Korea), and visited Melissa
(a rafiki with whom I volunteered in Tanzania last summer).
Last week, I drove up to Minnesota to finally meet my college friend Angie’s sons.
While I was there, I also visited Benita (a friend from Korea), and
attended a French camp staff reunion. Oh la la!
While in Missouri, I’ve hung out with and run into other old friends and
spent quality time with my family –
which means a lot of hugging on my brother Pano, my sister Soula, and the puppies!
Again, I wish I could have visited (and photographed) more of you.
I really appreciate your willingness to both play and have serious discussions with me!
It’s hard to not be with you all the time.
Plus, I also really miss my friends and students in Korea.

But I am otherwise ready to go …
we leave for the Philippines this weekend!
