The other night, our Filipino hosts offered us a local delicacy: BALUT!

 
A balut is a fertilized duck or chicken egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside. 
It is boiled and eaten from the shell.
 
Yum. 
Not.
 
The Filipino staff at the YMC grew up eating balut.
It took us a little convincing…
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Joy drank the juice – tastes like chicken.   Sharon couldn’t believe it had bones!
    
 
I wondered if salt would help.  And I actually could only bite off some of the yolk.  Maybe next time …
