Well, the last week has definitely not looked the way I thought it would. When I thought of “Unsung Hero” month I had not envisioned sitting in McDonald’s for seven hours drinking cheap coffee and trying to find some place to sleep for the night.  Spending five nights in the cheapest hostel in all of Chile has not been the best of my World Race memories either.

Team times have been nearly impossible because privacy in a hostel is little to none and the kitchen smells so bad that you can barely sit at the table without gagging.  No team time means miscommunication and miscommunication leads to conflict.

Days have just been hard for us this month, harder than we are used to.  When you have six people with different dreams, different visions and different ideas decision making can be tough.

The whole being homeless for a month thing is difficult too.

I also may have complained about sitting in McDonald’s for seven hours stealing wi-fi and drinking cheap coffee.

One too many hours in McDonald’s for Team Tharseo.

I’ve been impatient, I haven’t had grace for my teammates and I’ve let things bother me that shouldn’t.  I haven’t been praying and pursuing Jesus the way I should be and I haven’t been trusting Him to take care of me when it’s dark out and we still have no place to stay.

Though there have been struggles, we have still had our fair share of laughs this month.   We’ve met some insanely awesome people from all over the world in the hostels we’ve stayed in.  I had the chance to visit Valparaiso for a few days to start planning our month four debrief.  Santiago was beautiful and the city has so much to offer: endless parks, corner shops with empanadas and ice cream, plus a legit pizza joint with real Hawaiian pizza.  During our rest day in La Serena I got to watch the sunset over the Pacific and about fell to my knees at how beautiful it was.

Sunset on the beach in La Serena. Rest days are wonderful, especially when you get to walk on the beach for hours with no agenda.

I can’t tell you what is going to come of our Unsung Hero month, but here is what I do know: the Lord has purpose for it.  There is purpose in all of this and I have to remind myself on a daily basis that sometimes kingdom building looks much differently than originally anticipated.

Thanks for listening to my ramblings, and I’d love it if you could keep my team in your prayers this month.

Much love y’all.
