A few months ago when I returned from Uganda for the second time I knew I was ready. I was ready to commit. I was ready to go. I was ready to adventure. I was ready to pick up my life and move. Little did I know that my definition of ‘being ready to go’ and Jesus’ definition of ‘being ready to go’ were drastically different.
I turned down a job offer at the end of the school year knowing I would be going back, back to Uganda of course. I had finally met with the founders of the incredible ministry I had been partnering with over the last two years and they, yet again, invited me to be a part of their team over in Uganda. I was totally psyched! ‘Let’s do this, Jesus’ I thought to myself, but He had something else in mind.
Over the last year I have been following my friend’s journey around the world. She has been traveling all over the globe spreading the love of Jesus and I was so intrigued by her bravery and courageous spirit. She was on the World Race, a mission trip I had heard about several times before but always thought wasn’t for me.
“I can’t live out of a tent for that long.”
“One 40 pound pack for a whole year? No, thanks.”
“No western toilets and only bucket showers? Ha, yeah right.”
Those were just a few thoughts that kept me from pursuing a World Race in the past, but by following Tressa’s journey the Lord has totally softened my heart and changed my perspective.
He softened my heart so much so that I found myself applying for my own World Race and later on accepting the invitation to travel the world with them in January of 2016.
That’s right. In January of 2016, I will be setting out for my very own World Race. My summer has been so chaotic with road trips, weddings and camps that it is hardly a reality to me and I am still in a state of disbelief. My official World Race blog has been set up (obviously because you’re reading it) and I will have a support letter coming out soon!
This is just the beginning, I’ve got six months to spread the word and fully rely on Jesus to get me through the rest!
But seriously, is this real life? Like am I really going to be leaving in January for eleven months to travel the world and be a missionary? 😐
All glory and honor to Him,
-V
