7:15am – Alarm clock sings “Wake Me Up Before You Go, Go” and I fumble around to find the Snooze Button (10 more minutes, please…)
7:48am – Okay, I may have pressed the Snooze Button more than once. Time to actually get out of bed now!
7:55am – Getting dressed and ready to start the day
8:05am – Breakfast Time: Homemade Chicken Tamales and a cup of Instant Coffee (And I must say, I make a wicked good cup of instant coffee now)
8:42am – Heading out into the village to go to our ministry site (His Hands for Honduras) with Francisca, the pastor’s wife
9:02am – Tons of hugs, cheers, and love are shared upon arrival when we see the kids
9:20am – A prayer to start, then the songs begin! We may not know any of the songs in Spanish, but we can do the hand motions. We did, however, recognize one of the melodies as “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands” and sang along in English
9:43am – Bible lesson and craft time. Today we shared the story of Moses crossing the Red Sea and the kids drew Moses crossing the ocean waves
10:21am – Time to eat! Today’s lunch for the kids is “Mondogo Sopa”, a fish soup that is chockfull with mixed vegetables and rice
11:00am – Adios, chicos! Usually we head to the church to play games with the kids, but on Fridays they go straight back home
11:10am – Clean up includes stacking chairs, wiping down tables, and a clean sweep to finish the job
11:50am – Lunch Time: Fish, Mashed Potatoes, Rice, Salad, and Pepsi (We have had Pepsi served to us every single lunch and dinner, so the team takes turns drinking it)
12:26pm – Time to head back home with Francisca
12:48pm – Derik and Luke taught me how to play Cribbage today, which was entertaining for all (seeing as my shuffling skills are sub-par, or maybe worse than that…)
2:04pm – Taking some time to spend with the Lord, read Scripture and journal about the day
2:50pm – Getting dressed and ready for today’s workout time
3:20pm – We arrive at Esperanza’s house for a Total Body exercise routine. Today is my turn to lead the workout and Esperanza invited us over. When we arrived, there were a few ladies from the church also there to exercise with us, which we all got a real kick out of. It was a fun time for all!
4:00pm – Workout is over and we walk with the women around the village for a cool down walk
4:21pm – We arrived at basketball/soccer court and found a bunch of locals playing soccer together
4:39pm – Derik can’t resist any longer and tries to get in a game. A few local guys took him off sides to hit the ball around (We all decided this was their way of giving him “tryouts”)
4:43pm – The locals allow Derik and our host’s family’s boys play a game
4:44pm – The locals score on Derik’s team, so they get kicked off the court
4:53pm – Derik is allowed one more shot by the locals for a game
5:20pm – We all walk back home together
6:30pm – Iglesia at Cristo Centro; we attend church about 6 times a week and usually perform a drama at every single one
8:00pm – Team Time back at the house; tonight we took turns sharing our most challenging/stretching moments on the Race thus far and what God’s been teaching us through them
8:32pm – Dinner Time: Tacos con Pollo y Chimol (translation: tacos with chicken and chimol, which is a traditional Honduran side, comparable to pico de gallo)
8:41pm – Our dinner is happily interrupted by our favorite three teenage boys who live with our host family; they’re trying to get us to hurry so we can watch the Canada v. Honduras World Cup qualifier game with them
9:00pm – Soccer game begins! We are surrounded with our host family, which adds up to 12 people, plus 6 World Racers, tightly packed around the television
10:30pm – Esther, the daughter of our host, serves Coca Cola and Popcorn to all!
11:07pm – Canada wins the game and the family sluggishly meanders away from the television for the night
11:18pm – Sweet dreams, everyone! Buenas Noches!
