“David said to Michal, ‘It was before the Lord, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me rule over the Lord’s people Israel—I will celebrate before the Lord. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.’”
–2 Samuel 6:21-23
If you want to live for Jesus, you have to be willing to look a little crazy. David understood this, and when he stripped and danced before the Ark of the Lord, he wasn’t concerned about man pleasing, but rather he rejoiced at what God had done for him.
The thing about living fully for Jesus is that the great stuff is out there on the edge. You can’t see the fullness and the grandeur of the life He offers you if you plan to play it safe and secure, at least not the way society defines.
Trust me, Jesus’ love, promises, and grace are safe and secure but He is not safe.
In those famous lines by C.S. Lewis, “…Course he isn’t safe, but he’s good.”
I got tired of being “normal” a long time ago. I decided I would rather live for Jesus in the wholeness of His love rather than be concerned about self preservation. And everyday, He’s working selfishness out of me.
You can’t be fully committed to Christ and expect the world to love you. It’s not going to happen. You will always stand out because you don’t even think the way society normally does.
And I’m not talking about having a list of Christian morals (although there’s nothing wrong with that), but that cannot be the summation of your life with Jesus. Niceness is not synonymous with Christianity, but you know what is, truth and love. If you read the Bible, you realize that truth and love doesn’t always look nice and sometimes it presents a lot of tension, but man, it sets you free.
Jesus was interested in setting us free from the world’s way of thinking. Thinking like the Kingdom of heaven will completely oppose what the world says and you have to be willing to live in that “tension.”
So yeah, it’s a little “weird” out here with Jesus, but it’s so much fun!
Much love.
