Hey there!

I’m so glad you’re on this journey with me! If we know or don’t know each other, WELCOME.

My name is Vicky Kaniaru (say it with me KA–NEE–ARUE) and I’m excited about this race! Here are a few fun facts about me:

– I love Jesus and really desire to see His Kingdom expressed in my life and through the lives of others.

– I love to laugh, and making other people laugh.

-I was born in Kenya, moved to the States when I was ten, and grew up mostly in a small town called Cleveland, GA.

-I really love words. Writing, reading, poetry, talking, spoken word….you can find me doing all of it.

-Photography is my side hustle.

-My parents are a vanilla-chocolate swirl of love and through them, I’ve learned that love is not defined by race, status, culture, background, etc. Jesus died for all of us, and we’re all brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters in this Kingdom of Love.

-I have three older siblings, and a younger sister, who is way smarter than me, and I see God in her everyday.

-I really enjoy food, and new experiences.

-I volunteer with this great organization called Diamond in the Rough Youth Development Inc. Everyone involved is my second family, and they’re changing the world. www.ditr.org

-I consider the outdoors my other church. Put me in the woods, near a river, on the beach, on top of a mountain, under the stars, wherever…..It’s just me and God out there, and I love it!

-I’m 26 years old, just finished grad school in May, and just walking this journey. I’m a wanderer and a nomad, but I’m never lost.

-I have awesome friends, who allow me to be myself, but also reel me in when I’m over analyzing everything.

-Music and dancing = a good time.

– My life motto is “Live free and live light.” It stems from Matthew 11: 28-30 (MSG)—

28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
