Ya’ll the World Race is so much different than the pictures you see. It’s extremely challenging but oh so awesome. I never want to come home. The first night we got here, I struggled with committing to calling this place my home for the next 2 and a half months. If you didn’t know, I have an extremely bad commitment problem, but hey I’m working on it. I never thought I would commit to 9 months of squatty potty’s and bucket showers, but here I am squatting every time I have to pee. Life isn’t that bad here. It’s so freeing and God is so present here. We’re learning to not complain about some things but to be thankful for things like cold clean drinking water and warm bucket showers. I love my sisters in Christ that I get to do life with.
We’re here in Selaphum, a small city in the province Roi Et. We took an 8 hour bus ride, which took 12 hours, thats just Thailand transportation for ya.
We met our paster and his wife, we call them Momma and Papa. They’re super adorable and full of smiles and life. They neighbor a leper colony of about 100 people, Selaphum treats lepers as outcasts. So, Momma and Papa’s church is solely for the Lepers to have a place to worship our great Father. Momma and Papa are leper children, so they grew up with parents who had leprosy. They just have such a big heart for the village behind their land.
Yesterday we rode in the back of papa’s truck bed, which is our only means of transportation, to the school we will be teaching english at.
They know the basic:
“My name is ___”
“How are you?”
“I am good”
“Goodbye”
We teach the kids from 8-5 each day four days a week. We decided as a team, to split the day in half for the teams of two people that are needed to teach. The kids range from Kindergarten to 5th grade and they all know about the same level of english. The kids are so stinkin’ cute with their bowl-cuts and big gleaming eyes. I can’t wait to dive into teaching, which I have no experience at doing.
Hey guys! I told you I wouldn’t ever be going back to school, but here I am teaching english. God is funny y’all.
Its been raining nonstop since last night, reminds me of home. Today we couldn’t do landscaping in the church’s garden so we’re just resting and preparing ourselves for our classes tomorrow.
Last night
We celebrated our translators birthday around a self cooking coal burning fire. We each shared a fire and cooked all different kinds of meat and noodles. I’d say it was a pretty odd night.
I may have eaten some octopus, no shame though. It was a very memory filled night. We all enjoyed it.
To address my blog title, I got a dread last night, sorry mom and dad! #dreadlife
We’re having the times of our life here in Selaphum, Ill be updating and blogging a lot. So make sure to keep yourself in the loop. Ya don’t want to miss out on any crazy stories that are going to happen.
