I love the ministry I have been partnering with in South Africa! Each day I work with a ministry called Beats and Books which is an after school program for kids from the age of 7 to 17 aimed at teaching literacy, numeracy, music, and most importantly what it means to be a leader.

Each day we start with homework time where we tutor and assist the kids with what they are learning in school.

Then we have worship time, a jumble of cultures, ages, and instruments praising the name of Jesus! I feel like I get to see a glimpse of heaven each time we sing. We had a missionary from Brazil on the cajón, Cornie from Zambia on the guitar, Grace from Australia on the piano, Kaitlyn from the US on the flute, Innocent from South African on the trumpet, and a mixture of children and volunteers singing and playing tamborines, drums, and shakers along with them. It is a melting pot of ethnicities and musical instruments all lifting up praises to our God, an absolutely beautiful sight and sound!

Then we have a time of teaching where the kids go to educational or musical breakouts where they learn multiplication or spelling or violin depending on what they are assigned to that day. I love this time because teaching is a passion God has laid on my heart. I know He has me here for a reason and I am pouring out it all while I am here! The remainder of our time together varies on the day between library, dance and story time.

There have definitely been some heartbreaking moments as I learn more about the home lives of the children who come daily but I am so thankful to get to be part of sharing light and hope with them! God is good!
