I woke this morning with expectations of a new and exciting adventure. I had been informed that I would be driving a motorbike out to our ministry site today. I had prayed fervently for a good portion of the night that God would keep me safe and I might arrive without incident. Veronica was to ride on the back of the bike and that added to the uneasy feeling. It is no uncommon thing to ride on a motorbike on The World Race. To drive one is uncommon and to drive one in the motorbike capital of the world is unnerving to say the least. Rules of the road apply here, they are just a far cry from the rules we have in the US. I have no specific issue with driving a motorbike (in fact I am quite comfortable with the idea) I was just a little unsure about my surroundings and the chaos that is the Vietnamese streets. Much to my delight as I mounted the bike to leave our contact discovered that we would be one short in our group (we had a sick team leader). That meant we could fit an extra person in the car and a friend of hers could drive the bike with me on the back. I was relieved and elated. I know God could and would have protected me if I had driven, but this alternative saved me a great deal of stress.

As we drove off to our ministry site for the day (about an hour away) I was struck with the idea of putting in my earbuds and listening to some worship music. As we cruised along through the chaos that is Vietnamese traffic I became overwhelmed with God’s love and His goodness. Before I knew it I was crying, on the back of a moped (which was being driven by a stranger), in Vietnam, worshipping a loving and living God with all I had. The thought then occurred to me “Why isn’t this a more common occurrence?”. Why don’t I worship in odd and unusual places with reckless abandon more often?

I am resolved to do so. Which leads me to a challenge for you. When is the last time you truly worshiped God outside of church? When is the last time you were so struck by His goodness or majesty that you wept in full sight of strangers (don’t worry – I don’t think you can be locked up for that)? When is the last time you let God come out of the box you keep Him in and let Him roam freely through your everyday life? Might I suggest that if you have not then it is high time you gave it a try. If I can worship on the back of a moped in Vietnam I can worship anywhere. Where can you worship? Along with responding with comments, please include where you have worshipped today (or where you plan to).
