Can I just start by mentioning how I am absolutely loving the city of Penang? All things lovely, tasty and so diverse are in this place! Food tours, markets, food festivals, monkeys, indian-malay-chinese food, street art … Lol, I’m sure you get the point by now. Every foodies DREAM! This food is for the most part safe, clean and DEEEElicious! It’s a vastly different experience than that which I encountered in Indonesia and I still have yet to conjure up the courage to relive that experience just yet.

So IN THE BEGINNING…there was listening prayer to start the day yesterday. I heard THE WORD OF THE LORDT say “Jerky” during prayer. I chuckled while questioning whether or not to even share it with the team because I thought to myself “Surely this is just me thinking about…” you guess it-> Food! I shared it anyways, they were hardly moved by it and we went about our day. Later that night, Grace and I went to grab dinner before returning for movie night with the team. After cautiously picking through and taking occasional bites of our shared disappointing menu choice we were aimlessly walking home. Guess what happens next? (Cue the lights, angelic voices) We ran into a JERKY STORE! I was surprised, tickled to laughter just before I thought out loud to Grace, “Well, I guess I’ll go inside” as if i was expecting there to be this treasure awaiting my arrival, aside from the jerky of course. While it was tempting, I didn’t purchase anything (there was only pork and chicken -no beef jerky ??) and I just took it as a sweet affirmation that I was right where I needed to be that night enjoying great conversation with Grace. It wasn’t but a couple minutes later when we found ourselves turning a secluded corner where 2 homeless men were sleeping. We were in the middle of conversation while I felt this piercing tug on my heart. I immediately grab my purse to reach for money but then decided to stop, listen to the Lord and pray. It wasn’t money, it wasn’t the jerky, it wasnt even those men in particular. Earlier that day the Lord told me he wanted me to serve the homeless here in Penang. I questioned it because I was the only one that heard it while we were praying(listening) as a team for what ministry would look like here in Penang. This was Him sharing His burdened heart for His children and His plan for me to be His hands and feet while in this city. Please pray to prepare the hearts of the homeless to receive Abba’s love as we serve, encourage and share the refuge, shelter and home we have in God our Father. I share this in hopes that you will be encouraged that you do hear from the Lord. Even when you think something sounds silly or no one else is hearing the same thing…He is speaking!

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me”

John 10:27-28
