If you’re wondering what we did in the day to day this month this one’s for you!
RIZAL/MANILA
- We worked at a recycling plant. crushed hundreds of plastic bottles and put them in bags to reduce the amount of trash in the community.
- We spray painted signs
- Paintedo friend Rudy’s house!
- Hung out with the street kids, played games with them, sang and danced.
- Went to a pre-k school where we sang and danced to songs about Jesus and acted out bible stories.
- We went to the Pushcart community ministry (read more about them in previous blog) where we danced and sang, taught a bible story, and then talked in small groups about it, prayed for each kid, heard their stories, played games, and had a intense rock paper scissors tournament.
- We leveled ground at the pre-k school (which was also the church on Sundays) so that they could use the land as a place to host community events like weddings or graduations!
TRAVEL
We typically took a 2 hour jeepney ride to metro manila when we would go to Pushcart community. This typically looked like hopping on two jeepneys there and then on the way back waiting in line hours to catch a van to a jeepney to a trike or jeepney to get home.
CULTURE
The culture itself is very community focused. If there is a need for anything there is always someone willing to help. Our host asked us if we know the people in our communities at home. I laughed and said we’re more of a individualiatic kind of culture. They just deeply choose to know each other. Its beautiful.
PARENT VISION TRIP (PVT)
- One of the most amazing parts of the Philippines was getting to serve alongside my parents at a different ministry called Kids International Ministries. Together we…
- Did construction and plastered a wall.
- Went to the poorest area in Manila named Tondo to feed the children.
- Worshipped with my squadmates, their parents, local teachers, and the kids on the street!
- Read to Elementary school children
- Hung out with kids for a play date at the local clinic so mother’s could get a break and attend a bible study
- Hung out with kids at the children’s home who are no longer placed with their families
- Ate traditional Filippino food called lechon aka a large barbequed pig
- They rode in a Jeepney and a trike for the first time, ate pizza in the Philippines and experienced a lot of love from some really cool kids! It was such an incredible week.
First trike ride!
Update on my back: I’m doing well and can finally carry my bags again!!!
