The Start of My Journey

One evening in late spring, I sat on my bed and asked God, “What’s next?” I had reached a point where my life had become routine and uneventful. This was not what I expected my life to amount to. I anticipated an adventure full of challenges to be conquered, experiences to write about, and a lifetime full of lessons. Just as quickly as I asked God, the answer came, “Go on a mission trip.” I, being who I am, was startled by both the quickness of His response and His answer. I figured my adventure with be within the United States with all the comforts of home, with family and friends, with houses and cars, and of course, vacations. So, God telling me I was to leave all of that was unexpected, but in the moments to follow, I experienced an excitement that I had not since He told me to move across the country for bible college. To say the least, I was pumped for His plan and to see how it was going to unfold.

So, this is the “What’s Next” for my life – missions! For those who know me, this might seem out of the blue. I have a little secret – I have always wanted to travel the world, granted I planned on doing it in luxury. In all honesty, after times of hearing God in prayer, I want to see the world with the purpose of spreading the gospel. I am going to embrace the opportunity to live among those in greatest need and see the world that exists outside of tourist attractions. It doesn’t matter that I will be living in tents, mud huts, or tree houses for portions of the trip. What matters is that people’s lives will be changed. What matters is that they will come face to face with the opportunity to spend an eternity with their Creator. This is such a small sacrifice to make.

I will be embarking on this great adventure with a squad of 60+ people within my age group that I barely know. Along our journey, I’m sure most of us will become the greatest of friends as we are used by a mighty and loving God to bring the message of salvation to those who are in need. We will grow together, face challenges together, and see God heal people transforming lives across the globe. I look forward to getting to know this amazing, spirit-filled brothers and sisters in Christ!

Here’s where we are going: Southeast Asia and the United States.
