I know, I know. You’ve probably read a ton of Racer blogs that tell you under NO circumstances should you EVER even consider bringing TOMS shoes on the Race. But I’m here to argue that point.

See, back in the States, I wear TOMS on a regular basis. I have three pairs, and when I signed up for the Race and began thinking about what I would bring, I knew I wanted to bring one pair.

My favorite pair.

The ones that remind me of my mom. She gave them to me for Christmas two years ago, and they say Carpe Diem on them. A good reminder on the Race!

I worried that I made the wrong choice, but I can now say with confidence that I was right not to listen to the naysaying alumni. They do have good advice, though, so listen to them about other things!

My TOMS have held up well, they don’t stink too much (yet! they’re vegan though, which has something to do with it), and they’re really easy to slip on and off. Not to mention how comfortable they are!

So if you’re as big a TOMS fan as I am, I would recommend bringing a pair on your Race. They may not last the entire time, but then again, they might. It’s worth it to have that comfort and reminder of home.

So bring your TOMS. They’ll have some great stories to tell when they carry your feet back home.

I’m not the only TOMS rebel!
