In our town of Vidin, there are a lot of dogs wandering on the street. Most of these dogs are really friendly, as we found on one of our first days here.

This sweet boy bounded up out of nowhere, begging for petting and attention. We scratched his ears, crooned in baby voices (much to the amusement of our contacts), and loved on him. Then we continued our tour of the city.

We hadn’t walked more than a few paces before we realized the dog was following us! Every time we stopped, he would lean against us and look up with adoring eyes . He so clearly wanted our love, and he soaked up any little gesture we made towards him.

As I pet this sweet dog, I couldn’t help but think that Jesus desires us to be more like this guy. When we come to Jesus, He wants us to come with an attitude of desperation. I think He smiles when we press against him like this dog did, begging for His love and attention. He loves to show us affection and His all-consuming love, just as I loved showering this stray with love. Now, whenever I see him wandering the streets, I make sure to give him some extra attention, and I smile up to my Father for the funny little reminder to desperately throw myself into the arms of my Best Friend.
