For this blog, I decided I would list some good songs that’ve shaped my squad’s and my own time here in Romania π These songs have been played in the greatest worship sets, bonding moments, and more. I recommend each song listed to whoever is reading π (I also put a link to each song so if u want to listen, just click on the title!! I hope the links actually work lol I apologize if they don’t)
Taste & See– John Mark Pantana : A song that speaks about the sweetness of Christ and the abundance of all his blessings in which he has for us to enjoy. This song has brought some people on my squad lots and lots of joy in the Lord. (Abi & I also covered it and the video is on my Instagram @valeriemaddoxx and/or my youtube @ Valerie Marie)
Build My Life– Housefires : A song that’s been sung in multiple worship sessions and almost every single time, the Lord has revealed a new message in the song. At one point, Abi and I had gotten so familiar with the song that we couldn’t even get through the full song once when practicing without laughing or messing up. When this was happening, we decided to turn to the Lord in silence and ask him if he really wanted us to sing this song. He responded telling each of us the same thing. “Focus on the words and you will learn something new every time” so we did, and it was great.
Made for Jesus– John Mark Pantana w/ Olivia Dyer : A song that has personally brought me a lot of joy and comfort. When I listen to this song I’m reminded that the Lord literally made me to live in his presence and be part of his kingdom. Through these lyrics I feel Christ’s love for me, it’s very sweet. π
Called Me Higher– All Sons & Daughters : A song that has been a really important reminder that Jesus is not just my safe place. Having comfort in the Lord is a very sweet gift, but you cannot grow in that comfort. The Lord calls you higher every single day. It just takes a “yes” in your spirit to move where the Lord wants you to move and grow.
Refiner– Maverick City Music : A song that’s been super powerful in worship. Through it, the Lord has sparked a match in the hearts of my squad-mates and I, giving us space to allow the Lord to refine us. Sort of like a “God, I WANT you to pick me apart, refine me into the masterpiece that you’ve created me to be, even if it’s hard, even if it hurts, etc.”
Defender– UPPERROOM : A song about our great defender, Jesus Christ. We love that guy. He is ALWAYS fighting for us.
Nothing Else– Cody Carnes : Ask yourself this question. “Is Jesus Enough?” Sit on it. If you lost literally everything, if you had absolutely nothing of your own earthly desires, would Jesus still be enough? *thanks Jacob for your insight that one time*
Multiplied– NEEDTOBREATHE : A song declaring the blessings that come from the Lord when we intentionally CHOOSE him. It’s really cool how Jesus multiplies his love and blessings when you sacrifice things you love in order to follow his will for you. It’s also a super joyful sounding song. π
Open Space– Housefires : JESUS, CHANGE US, WE WANT TO LOOK MORE LIKE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You and You Alone– UPPERROOM : This song. A good one to recognize the goodness of our Father and thank him for everything, and I mean EVERYTHING he has done, is doing, and will do in your life. We sang it last night at worship and I just realized its pretty sweet that it happens to be thanksgiving week. Give thanks to God not only this thanksgiving, but ALWAYS because he is our ultimate provider.
Tremble– Mosaic MSC : There is darkness and lots of spiritual warfare here in Romania. We’ve fought it endlessly and we have the victory because we have Christ. He makes the darkness tremble and he gives us the power to also make it tremble simply because we’ve accepted him in our hearts. Thank you Jesus for winning the big fight. You’re awesome.
Lean Back– Capital City Music w/ Dion Davis : Lean. Lean into the Father. He’s always there. He’s like… always ready for a trust fall… because HE LOVES US!!!
Communion– Maverick City Music : A song that has been sung many many times. It reminds me of how close my God truly is. I recommend you listen to it, sit still, and feel the Lord’s presence. He’s always there. Also, God brings death to life and transforms things always. He can’t help but transform and I’m extremely thankful for that. The fact that you literally cannot live life with him and stay the exact same person that you’ve always been is awesome. You WILL grow and change, but it’s the best change you’ll ever undergo.
Now, I could name so many other songs that have shaped the past three months, but I think I’m gonna leave that to everyone else in the comment section. Whether you’re my squad-mate, part of another squad, a parent, family member, friend, etc. feel free to comment a song that’s touched your heart over the last three months. You could also just let me know your favorite song of the ones I’ve listed… or just leave whatever comment you want, it doesn’t have to talk about music π
side-note: i DO read all of your comments and I want to say thank you for every single one. They always encourage me so thank you π love you guys & thank you for reading.
