Hello, my name is Valerie and welcome to my blog. To tell you a little bit about myself… first off, I currently live in Katy Texas, right outside of Houston. I have a Mom, a Dad, a younger brother, and an older sister. I’m 17 years old and a senior in high school. Some things I am really involved in at school are Theatre, the club Young Life, and the club Best Buddies. If you don’t know what Best Buddies is, it is actually an international organization for people with intellectual development disabilities, helping them find jobs, create friendships, etc. all advocating for inclusion. At school, I am the president of the club, and what we do is create one on one friendships with the IDD students and hold some super fun events for the school with those students. I really have a huge heart for these people and want to love them with all that I can, recognizing them as a person before their disability. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends, painting, drawing, watching movies, baking, researching animals, etc. I like to stay busy. I heard about the race through a couple people that my sister knew who went on it after they graduated high school. After a lot of prayer, I decided to apply for the race. I really felt called and I’m so excited to embark on this journey! 🙂
