A little over two weeks ago, the World Race launched its August 09 squads.  The first stop on the journey?  Just a hop across the pond to the Emerald Isle.  Now, as our 80 racers prepare to head off to the next destination, Romania, we wanted to share some of the pictures, highlights, and thoughts from our young travelers’ first experience on the Race.

Partnering with local churches and organizations, the racers were able to go serve in the local Irish community.  God not only worked through them, but he continued to reveal himself in ways they never expected.  Here are some of their stories:

As I approached a few young lads in the park with
a “hey guys…what’s up?”…they excitedly exclaimed…”Will Ferrell
just told us about Jesus!” I laughed as I glanced around the park
wondering if I just missed a Will Ferrell sighting in Ireland. Not
seeing any large crowds forming, I turned my attention back to the
boys.
Street evangelism has proven much easier than I
ever imagined and do I daresay, even enjoyable. Because the truth
is…people are seeking.  Read more…

So I have asked myself the question numerous times since I left.  Why
am I here?  The ministry so far has been ok, but I don’t think I’m
making a huge difference.  I’m still growing into my role as leader and
I also don’t feel I’m doing a spectacular job at that.  I’m struggling
with my aversion to talking to strangers, which is problematic in
street evangelism in another culture.  I think I’ve come here to die.  I often speak about dying to myself, or being crucified with Christ.  It sounds cool.  It sounds like the right thing to do and something that I want to happen.  Read more…

I tend to think I’m a good mix between an introvert and an extrovert.
When I’m with friends and family I’ve got no problem goofin’ off and
speaking my mind, but throw me in a room full of strangers and I’ll
feel a little awkward at first. So when I found out our ministry in
Ireland would include about 3 hours of street evangelism each day I was
a little (or a lot) nervous.  Read More…

Bethany Brueggen

One thing that I have had many questions about leading up to The World Race is all the “holy spirit” stuff. I’m not sure how I feel about laying on hands to anyone is sick and praying for healing. I’m not quite sure how I feel about a private prayer language as well as speaking in tongues without an interpreter. I’m not sure how I feel about asking God for visions and pictures of where to go and who to look for when we go out on the streets to talk with people. All I know is the word of God is living, active, and breathed out by God, useful for teaching and correcting.

And what would a World Race stop in Ireland be without a few pictures to capture the memories:
