We’ve added some new countries to the July 2014 World Race routes, and we’re pretty excited about them!

After lots of research, surveying Racers about what countries they love, and reading stories of amazing ministry experiences, we’ve decided to spice up these routes a bit.

July is an incredible time to leave on the Race, and now there are a few extra reasons for you to apply soon.

Without further ado, the new countries are:

Route 1 – In place of El Salvador and Nicaragua, we’ve added Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Haiti was hit with a life-altering earthquake on January 12, 2010. The nation’s still rebuilding, but the church is rising up. Haiti is experiencing a spiritual revival right now like it has never seen before. Communities are turning to pastors for leadership, and the local church is becoming the driving force behind Haiti’s ongoing rebirth. Be part of this key moment in Haiti’s history and the church’s impact on this nation. Come ready to serve and ready to be blessed.

The Dominican Republic shares the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean with Haiti. Dominican culture is lively, vibrant, and warm, however, the people struggle with hypersexualization, alcoholism, and witchcraft. After the earthquake in Haiti, the DR quickly became a refuge for thousands who were displaced. Chances for ministry here are varied and exciting – anything from children’s camps to church planting to construction. Come join the long-term Adventures in Missions presence and be a light to the Dominican people.

Route 2 – We voted, and this route is already 206% awesome, so it’s staying the same.

Route 3 – Instead of Puerto Rico and Vietnam, this squad gets to go to Japan and be the first squad to pioneer Colombia.

Known as the Land of the Rising Sun, Japan is made up of almost 7,000 islands and boasts the world’s largest metropolitan area, Tokyo. Religious freedom has been in place since the end of World War II, but 84% of the Japanese people practice Buddhism or Shintoism or a combination of both, and fewer than one percent are Christian. Groups like Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons are reaching the Japanese people faster than Christians are. Japan needs excited young missionaries to help infuse a sense of freshness to the missionary effort.

From the Andes Mountains to the Caribbean coastline to the Amazon rainforest, Colombia is one of the world’s most ecologically diverse countries. Also ethnically diverse, Colombia is home to many unreached tribes, a large student population that’s becoming more and more distant from the gospel, and thousands of children living in the streets who need love and hope. In spite of its reputation for political upheaval, Colombia is a place where missions efforts are growing. Amazing stories of transformation like the revival at the prison in Medellin are happening, and you can come help write more!

Route 4 – In place of Honduras and Vietnam, we are sending this squad to India and Nepal.

With nearly a sixth of the world’s population within its borders, India is a country bursting with people and culture. Home to a diverse array of beliefs from Hinduism to Islam, to a blend of folk religions and other faiths, it is a country of pluralism with 29 languages spoken by over a million native speakers, multiple religions, cuisine, socio-economic classes, and political parties. India’s struggles with poverty and crimes of human trafficking, forced prostitution, religious persecution, and more. You might work with local churches to encourage believers and be challenged by their testimonies. Your presence can bring hope and truth to those that society deems “untouchable.”

Home to Mount Everest, the world’s tallest mountain, Nepal literally sits on top of the world. In addition to adventurous experiences you could have here, you may also visit widows and orphans in their times of distress and protect the innocent who are prey to human traffickers. This month of your World Race experience will submerge you in a culture that is desperate for an encounter with the living God.
