As I sit in LAX awaiting my flight to Manila, Philippines, my mind runs a thousand directions at once. I’ve been awake for 33 hours but my adrenaline still races. I close my eyes and recount the things I’ve left behind…Before embarking on a journey to the poorest corners of the world, I have stopped in the center of posh American culture… The noise around me seems to grow till I can hardly stand it. And this is when I realize The World Race is not a great sacrifice…

The Human Trafficking edition of the World Race is different in its focus and length, but it’s similar in that the goodbyes always come at the end of the month. Kristen had a difficult time leaving Thailand last month:

This is a fight worth fighting. But it is so so so hard. Some girls are in the sex industry because they feel they have no other options. Some girls are in the trade because they are owned and someone is forcing them to sell themselves. And still some are in the trade because they are scared, and even when offered the door to a way out, are paralyzed with fear to walk through it.
Resolved: The January 2012 World Race
Have you been keeping this year’s resolutions?
Hannah Vitkus went on the January 2010 World Race. About a month after her return, she wrote,
On the last day of 2010, I cannot help but look back on previous New Year’s eves when I have asked myself if this next year will be different.
But now, after a year of complete surrender and reliance on God, the question has changed.
I now ask myself, “Will I be different?”
Will you resolve to be different in 2012?
