For most people, one of the most daunting things about going on the World Race is having to raise the support. Some people have months to prepare letters, fundraisers, and meetings with potential supporters and other racers only get the two months between training camp and the launch of their race.  Support raising is just one part of the journey each World Racer goes on during the year and everybody’s support raising journey is a little different.  We learn to trust God and depend on the body of Christ through support raising.

Support Raising shouldn’t be a deal-breaker.

If God is calling you to the World Race then He will provide.  Yeah, sometimes the money comes in right at the last minute… that happens.  The point is that God provided through family, friends, and strangers.  He is faithful.  Read the highlights and stories below to see how God is faithfully providing for World Racers right now.  If there is something in your gut and spirit that turns with anticipation when you read about the World Race, then apply.  Take a crazy leap of faith and watch God provide for your journey just like He’s providing for these people.

:: Here’s a little breakdown of what God has done in the areas of finances for World Racers this month ::
  • Everybody on the June ’09 Squad received enough funds to make it to the field!
  • The June ’09 Squad raised a total of $332,742 of the $469,200 that is needed before the start of their trip!
  • In one month the June ’09 Squad raised $134,729.33!
  • The June ’09 Squad increased their total support raised by 31.2% in one month.
  • 6 people on the June ’09 Squad were fully funded at Launch
  • 4 people who have worked and fought hard to raise support on the January ’09 Squad had a breakthrough month to reach their goal! One girl jumped from having 60% of her support to 100%!
  • The January ’09 Squad is supporting one another.  Those who have had difficulty with support are getting help from their teammates’ supporters.  As a squad, they are starting campaigns to help people in need finish raising their money for the trip.
  • Some racers came up with some creative ways to raise support and they brought in tons of support!  They did a “Mini Race” for friends and supporters to have some fun while getting donations for their mission trip. DC Race!  They created a golf tournament fundraiser where each participant had to play 180 holes of golf in one day.  Each golf participant tried to get as many sponsors and pledges as possible.  This one event brought in $13,000! Check out their blog for these Creative and Successful Fundraising ideas.
  • One racer’s friends created a website for her while she was at Training Camp.  This will help jump-start her support raising efforts.
:: Their Stories ::

Lisa SmithGiving Around The World. This is a great example of how to update your supporters on how their giving is making a difference in communities and people’s lives.  This participant wrote this blog and expressed her need for $1000 to be fully funded.  A week later, she was done!

Matt Williams and Dave BrownHelping a Teammate Out. This blog is an example of what God can do as your teammates surround you and help you meet your support raising goals!

Warren CheelyCrazy Faith. This is a story of a WR participant who got accepted just before Training Camp, and raised all of his funds in just a couple of weeks.  He was fully funded before he left on the race because he trusted and walked in faith!
