Daniel Durick is currently at World Race training camp and leaves in July for his trek around the world. Below is the story his local new station recently did on him.  The TV station featured the World Race on their daily broadcast and the clip is at the bottom.

This is a first. I’m blogging about money. My money. It’s not my favorite subject but here goes.

I give away a lot of money every year, at least it’s a lot to me. It may be more than some, less than many others, but just the right amount for me. I’m fine, even happy, with what I give away because I never do it while being pressured or coerced. I give it willingly because I feel blessed and want to help others. I’m also comfortable giving it because I know, and completely believe in, those I’m giving to. It’s not only charity for me, it’s an investment. I’m not going to go into details about the benefactors of my meager gifts but I do want to share one with all of you. I met him a couple of years ago and he works with me at Channel 9.

His name is Daniel Durick and he works behind the scenes here at the station operating cameras, building and lighting sets, running the tele-prompter and doing many other technical tasks. He’s great at what he does but he will be resigning at the end of the month to begin what is sure to be a life-changing year for him and the many others that he touches over the next 12 months or so. In July, he will be leaving on something called The World Race and will travel across the world with the simple goal of helping and loving others in need.

Daniel, like so many other twenty-somethings, has many unanswered questions about his life and the world in which he lives. He has a heart that aches for others and is trying to figure out how to weave that into a lifetime as an independent, productive adult. It’s hard for me to imagine a better way to find these answers than through a nearly year-long pilgrimage across the globe discovering, and then trying to meet, some of the world’s greatest needs. This isn’t a luxury excursion. He’ll be sleeping mostly in tents, eating the most basic of foods and mingling with some of the poorest, downtrodden people in the world.

As you can probably tell I am already very fond of Daniel and think his future is bright and am more than honored to invest in him with my time, money and energy. The World Race is only going to grow his already enormous heart, compassion and love for people. The pay off for my investment will be watching him develop into a man of integrity, faith and vision that is so desperately needed in our world today.

It’s not cheap to spend a year traveling all around the world, even on $5 a day. Daniel needs to raise about $15,000 to make this adventure the best it can be. I would give it all to him if I had it, but I don’t. I give him what I can and I’m thrilled to be part of this experience in his life. To me, he’s a blue chip investment with little to no risk.
