Wow! August has flown by. This past month has been a journey into unknowns for me as well. At the beginning of the month my support account was sitting at $3,519 and not moving. I had a deadline fast approaching of $6,500 to be able to Launch with L Squad and to my team I HAD to meet that deadline. I had no idea where I was going to get that kind of support raised with less than a week to go and no fundraisers planned until after the deadline date. I prayed, I spoke with my teammates and squad mates. They prayed. The day before the deadline came and God himself moved my account from $3,519 to $6,184 and I had a check for $500 to mail in. The check would not have arrived in time to make the deadline date so I called my mobilizer Alexandra up and she told me I could have until August 30th to get the money in to her. God came through in a huge way.
The day before I called Alexandra I found out my Mom has bladder cancer, and that she was going to be having surgery to attempt to 'scrape' out the cancer. I went to the hospital the day of the surgery and afterwards we learned that the cancer was stage T2 and that the best option was to schedule a surgery for a later date to remove the bladder, uterus, ovaries, and lymph nodes. I started to question whether or not I was supposed to go on The World Race. Had God wanted me to stay home with my family? I prayed about it and when I saw my account jump by almost $3000 in less than a week I became sure that God was telling me to leave and to trust him not only on my journey but with my parents health as well.
I want to say THANK YOU to all of you who made it possible for me to be able to Launch! I am so humbled by the generosity of family, friends, and strangers combined. And THANK YOU to all of the anonymous donors.
My account is currently sitting ~$7,000 and I will be having a spaghetti feed/good bye at the Henning Community Center on Sunday September 2nd from 10:30am-2:00pm. I will also be speaking at the Methodist church, and St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Henning Sunday morning.
**EDIT** Because I was slow to post this blog, I can update that God has went above and beyond anything I could have ever expected with the spaghetti feed. I now have approximately $5,500 left to raise.
