Growing up as kids we all have crazy imaginations. I remember having imaginary friends, bears, lions, kingdoms, powers etc. And it didn’t have an end, my imagination was infinite, but somewhere along the way I lost it. When that happened I honestly can’t tell you, I think it left a little bit at a time, so by the time it was completely gone, i didn’t even miss it. But I’m not the only one, as we all grow older our imaginations disappear and we begin to focus on more “adult” “realistic” things.
Over the last couple of years I’ve had this crazy idea that the imagination is actually really important to the Kingdom work of the Lord, even possibly going as far as it being a Spiritual gift if you will. I had a couple conversations with people about it and they kinda agreed but I eventually chalked it off as a cool idea and left it at that. Fast forward to last month when I was reading a book called “Secrets of the Seer” by Jamie Galloway, I get to chapter 4, and guess what its called?! The Secret of the Imagination!!! I literally almost lost it, here, after years of looking I finally found my confirmation of my idea about the imagination!
With that being said, I believe the imagination is one of the most important gifts for the church and also how the Lord speaks to us. It’s in our imagine that we daydream, and even, I believe, where the Lord shows us visions and possibly even dreams. It’s no wonder that we lose this gift as we grow older because it has such an important role in the church, so why wouldn’t the enemy want us to forget it?
I want to encourage us as a church, believers, parents, pastors, teachers, brothers, sisters on and on, to begin the imagine again, and practice your imagination. What if we began to encourage kids to continue imagining as they grow up instead of saying “you’re too old to have imaginary friends.” Should we repent for this? Are we responsible for silencing the voice of the Lord because we dont believe that imagination is important?! Let’s make a commitment to change this!
