Its officially day 3 of Training Camp, day 5 if you count those of us that came for Storytelling training. Can I be honest? It’s actually going slower than I thought it would, I thought TC (training camp) was going to fly by, but it’s not, and I’m thankful for that. It’s not often that something you’ve been looking forward to for over a year actually lasts long enough for you to enjoy and learn from it. Granted, we still have 8 days left so that helps some as well.
You’ve probably got a lot of questions about what’s happening, what’s it like, things of that nature, and I’ll be answering those in some other blogs and also vlogs on YouTube. For now I want to talk about community.
Community is something that I love, but good community is hard to come by, especially if you’re introverted and struggle getting to know new people. When i say that these people I get to call my squad have already become my community it may shock you. “But Tyler, it’s only been 3 days, you barely even know these people.” Trust me, I understand that. But they’ve become more than my community, these are my people and this is my tribe. These are the people I get to do life and ministry with for the next year as we travel the world. I’ve watched them come together to pray for each other, make time to hangout, laugh until our stomachs hurt and even cry together. We’re loud, we’re funny, but we’re also passionate about Jesus, and telling people how He has changed our lives.
I often say that family doesnt always mean blood, and this is family. We’re currently in a field scenario where pur bags get “lost” by the airline on a travel day, so half our squad doesnt have tents, sleeping bags, clothes etc. When this happened, everyone came together with extra hammocks, hoodies, tents, sleeping bags, so that our tribe got what they needed. AND, everyone did it without hesitation! That. Is. Community.
So yeah, TC is fun, its rough, I’m hungry and craving sugar but it’s also teaching us alot and preparing us for launch in January!
P.S. If you have TC in October BRING WARM CLOTHES!!
