God opened the door for me to share the gospel with a couple searching for truth today. After watching the Avengers with some of my teammates, I went to a coffee shop in the mall to grab a drink. As I sat down waiting for my order, I felt a nudge to talk to a husband and wife at the table next to me. After a few minutes of talking, he shared with me that he believed in Jesus (pronounced “Yesu” here) and saw all religions as the right one. This becomes a touchy subject for many. The truth is that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and NOBODY comes to the Father except through him (John 14:6). What’s amazing about this moment talking with this couple is that I didn’t have to shove it down their throats nor did I feel compelled to make something happen. God just showed up himself. I simply loved on them, talking about life while proclaiming the truth when Connor, one of my squad mates, heard Jesus tell him about the wife. As my conversation continued with this couple, Connor asked her if she had knee pain (Here, pain is pronounced “Betta”…or something along those lines…). Her and her husband opened their eyes wide and began explaining her knee pain and how diabetes led to that pain. We prayed for her knee pain and diabetes and let them know that Yesu loves them/is after them. The couple agreed and gave us their contact info to meet up later.
That’s just one of the many awesome things God has allowed me to be a part of here in India. Being halfway through my time in this country, I have already been privileged to go to multiple remote villages to pray for locals, play worship at Indian churches, and share the good news to groups of University students. My team in currently in Kolkata, a historically rich place in terms of the work that many brothers and sisters have accomplished here. People like Mother Theresa, William Carey, and Henry Martyn spent valuable time in this city establishing the presence of the gospel and giving their lives for others to have the opportunity to receive it. Real Avengers. What these powerful children of God did and what I am currently doing brings a valuable lesson that Jesus teaches to light.
In Mark Mark 4:26-29, Jesus shares a parable about the Kingdom of God with his disciples. He compares it to a man that throws seed on soil and eats, sleeps, and rises again to find that the seed mysteriously grows into a crop for him to reap. As believers and followers of Jesus, we plant seeds and harvest crops but the Lord brings the growth. It’s his seed that we sow (his word) and his crop that we gather (those who come to faith in Jesus as God). We are together in the harvest with God. I compare it to an athlete who works out, eats, and wakes up on the day of competition more capable of top performance than the 1st day of training. The athlete had no real control over the growth, only allowing opportunities for that growth to take place. I want to encourage you to continue sowing God’s seed, allowing him to bring the growth, and reaping the crop he produces. God performs the miracle, we just work with him by allowing the opportunity for it to happen.
Love y’all!
