Most people think of a testimony as person giving a verbal, personal account on how they came to know Jesus. Like a salvation story.

While true, a testimony can actually be any personal account… an experience that the speaker is affected by.

For instance, I could tell you about the time I was walking through a grocery store and a black widow decided it would be fun to slide down its web onto my shoulder, resulting in my fear of spiders! (This didn’t really happen, nor am I that fearful of spiders… hehe). This would be a testimony on why you think spiders are scary.

I want to focus on spiritual testimonies for the purpose of this blog. Mainly about how powerful they can really be.

Bible Study Group

I work on a cruise ship as an a cappella singer, and I attend a Bible Study onboard with other Christ followers (see attached picture). We meet every evening. We usually start w/ prayers and songs, then study the Word, then sing and pray some more. A couple nights ago, one of the guys, Jude, asked if anybody had any testimonies… a little changeup to the routine.

Jude knew one of the guys had a powerful testimony, but the guy was a little too shy to speak up. Annette (not sure how you spell her name) decided to then take the reigns.

Long story short, she spoke about how God provided her with her cruise job. No, it wasn’t about how she got “saved”. Yet, it was one of the most touching, powerful testimonies I have ever heard. And it wasn’t even the story itself that got to me (even though God did some amazing things in her story)! It was the conviction she spoke with. It was the look in her eyes. It was the Holy Spirit.

Suddenly, practically everyone started sharing. Stories about God providing in dreams, hospital rooms, Jamaica, the side of the road, houses. Praise was being sent up to Jesus! People were connecting. Everyone seemed to get a little closer to God. heart

So don’t think that you have to make sure you have a perfect testimony planned out, or that it has to be extraordinary. Just trust and speak with confidence. The Lord does the rest.

I felt so encouraged after that meeting. I saw Jesus move. I saw walls being torn apart, and Satan vanquished.

You think Satan wants to keep us from sharing how God has/is worked/working in our lives? Absolutely. Because he knows how they can change people. angry

A testimony about the Lord can bring unbelievers to Christ, and believers to repentance. I’ve been reading a lot of World Race blogs and seen some pretty incredible testimonies. They all encourage me to run towards the cross of Jesus. They make me think.

So, just as Annette encouraged the silent guy to speak up, I encourage you to do the same! Speak up and share what God is doing in your life! Listen and read other people’s stories! Be a living testimony! It can impact your life. smiley
