Molly and I have decided to try and update the blog every week in preparation for the trip and then, of course, as much as we can during the World Race. We are both really excited to see that people are subscribing and following us along this trip, because we know your support will mean so much and are excited about what God will do with such a great group praying for us.
This being one of my first blogs, I have some things to get off my mind (which I think is the idea of a blog). Really, the whole blog thing seems a lot tougher than I would have ever thought. I think the biggest issue is that I am just over thinking it all. One of the biggest things on my mind is that I have only ever kept a journal twice—while hiking on the trail and on my NOLS trip to Patagonia. Both of these were more of a way to catalog happenings and events which will be awesome once on the world race, but right now it seems much more difficult. How much do I share; what all do I share? Do people simply want to hear updates and prayer requests or do people just want to know what I’m thinking at every moment? I’m sure after a couple I might get the hang of it, but right now I’m just not sure. Even as I write this I feel childish; I mean everyone blogs. Many of my friends and family blog all the time and while they always have something great to say, I have never thought of myself as a creative type person. I have always been more of a private person. If you want to sit down over coffee (although I usually rather go for a beer) and talk, then I will usually spill my guts, but sometimes I don’t even like putting a status update on facebook. I guess I’ve always been a little more of a private person when it comes to mass media and social networking, but now that I’m blogging I will have to change all that. So here is the first round.
I will start by filling you in on some of the updates with the race. To start, we received our first financial support toward the race, which is really exciting to see God to begin to provide. Also, we have begun to send out support letters and they will be coming to a mailbox near you shortly. (If for some reason you do not get one or know we don’t have your address, we would love to send you one, so please e-mail us your address.) Finally, we would like to share a huge answer to prayer and a big update about our living situation. To those of you who didn’t know, our apartment complex wanted to send our rent through the roof for the last couple months. After talking to them the first time, they seemed to not be budging at all. Randomly, they called me back and said that they decided to give us a lower price, so we can now afford to stay in our apartment until Molly graduates.
Here are some prayer requests at the moment:
That the support letters get sent out properly without any issues,
That God is able to continue to provide for Molly and I as we prepare for the trip,
That God will work on our hearts and get us ready to work with our squad as well as the people we will encounter,
And finally, that I am able to continue to have work in order to have an income as we need it.
Guess that wasn’t so bad. Well, I guess I’m officially a blogger.
