It’s funny I’ve traveled all the way to the Dominican Republic to find that one of the best things about traveling are the people you travel with and what they can do for you. Today Kristin and I went with Alicia to Santa Domingo, so that Alicia could meet her Compassion kid. Now let me tell you first of all that Kristin is a talker, so when I first met her, she overwhelmed me with her words. Today, that changed, because today I learned about Kristin.
Today Kristin told me her story which reveals a wonderful picture of redemption. It you ever get a chance you should get her to share it with you, because it is so refreshing to hear not only a bear naked story, but also to hear how God has redeemed the person and grown them through it. Although Kristin is a talker, I also learned that she is a good listener and has a lot of wisdom in her words. Kristin sat and listened to my story as well today. It was so refreshing to hear her story and encouraging words for me, because these past couple weeks have been wearing on me. I’ve been uncomfortable with where I am at. It has felt like God has slammed doors. At times, I feel like I am moving backwards. I have worked so hard this past half year to understand and take hold of the freedom that is found in living with Christ and the grace that he has given to us. Now I feel as if my freedoms are being taken away; my doors are being shut. I struggle understanding why I can’t cook for myself or find what I want to cook in the store or why I have to sleep in a sleeping bag to somehow be more in tuned with God or be told I don’t need to know when we are leaving the Dominican Republic, because someone higher up thinks it’s best.
Today was another experience all together. As the blogs title, a quote from Eat, Pray, Love, suggests, God gave me a box of Girl Scout cookies today. Today I got a pedicure; today I had a slice of brownie cheesecake; and today, I learned about redemption. Thank you, Kristin, for being my box of Samoas.
