My dad sat me down a few weeks ago and asked me a difficult question. He asked “What are you doing right now to further God’s kingdom?” I was little taken back at this question and had never given it much thought. Sadly, the answer was very simple. I was doing nothing. I was sitting here living life waiting to go on this big missions trip to start spreading the gospel. I wasn’t living for the moments God had given me.
C.S Lewis put it perfectly. He tells us that “There is no other day. All days are present now. This moment contains all moments.” For all I know me writing this is the last moment Christ will give me on this earth. Tomorrow may be my day to go home. So what am I doing now to spread the light Christ has freely given me?
A few days after this conversation with my dad, a position just randomly fell into my lap. It was an overnight position at a christian men’s homeless shelter. God works in mysterious and real ways, am I right? Now every week I get the privilege of ministering to a great group of men. Men that are so thirsty for truth. These men are starving for something that is more real and stable than getting high or drunk. They long for a real and loving savior.
I have the privilege of having a job where I am encouraged to share the gospel! I am encouraged to read the bible and pray. God has really opened my eyes about how I do not need to leave the country to go on a missions trip. There are people all over our own country and even our own cities that are thirsty for Jesus! We just have to start furthering the kingdom now because the only moment that matters is right now.
