Hey friends,
I’m going to share some of the thoughts I’ve been wrestling with over the past few weeks.
I will begin with sharing about my “key for the journey”. At the beginning of the World Race, every racer was given a key with a prophetic word engraved in it that someone had prayed over specifically for that racer. The cool part is that the racer and the person praying have zero knowledge of each others lives. The key that I received said “wisdom”.
When I received the key I was honestly not very impressed with the word that was engraved in it. I believed that wisdom was such a broad topic and that God had already gifted me with a lot of wisdom and understanding through His word and through knowing Him. I’ll admit it was an arrogant thought to have but nonetheless, I kept the key with me and remained open to what God had to reveal to me on this topic.
As the first few months of the Race passed by and I consistently began to spend more time in His word, God began to reveal more and more of His character to me. I began to realize that I had been twisting His word to make Him the God that I wanted Him to be, rather than the God that His word says He is.
Yes you read that correctly. I realized that their is a huge part of His character that I am quick to overlook, and I believe that most people are quick to make the same mistake.
Proverbs 9:10 says this; “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” The fear of the Lord. This is what Jesus has been trying to tell me for the past few weeks and last week I finally realized that this was the key for my journey! Hallelujah.
The fear of the Lord is something that is not often talked about in the Christian communities that I’ve been a part of, but ironically can be found in almost every chapter of the bible! I’ve realized that without the fear of the Lord in my life, it’s very easy to fall into a place of idleness and lukewarm faith, where I rely more on the simple things of this world then on the faithfulness and supreme power of my Creator. This is not only relevant for my time on the World Race but for every season of life.
The fear of the Lord does not mean that we need to be afraid of God, it simply means that we need to realize that He is God and we are not. It means realizing that He is holy and He has called us to be holy, but we have failed miserably. It means realizing that all things have been created through Him and for Him, and that He has the power to take our life as quickly as He can make it. It means realizing that unless we repent and abide in His grace (the cross), that we have a very real chance of being subjected to His wrath and righteous judgement on the final day.
Again I want to stress that we don’t need to be afraid to approach God. We know this because His word tells us that through the blood of Jesus we have been given access to approach the throne room of God with confidence, free of guilt and condemnation of our past sins. Hallelujah! The bible actually makes it clear that God is for us, that He is not against us and that He is a Father figure that desires to win back His lost children (mankind). We have the choice to decide if we are for Him or against Him and if we choose the latter of the two, then we have a real reason to fear Him.
Gods whole plan for humanity was to let His glory be spread throughout the earth because His glory was upon us and we were made in His image (Genesis1:26). Unfortunately we (mankind) had other plans and decided to try and glorify our own image, which corrupted His image, leading us
to the broken state we are in today.
”For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23
“God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” John? ?3:17-18?
Fairly self explanatory. If we don’t abide in Christ and His blood shed on the cross, then we stand condemned before God and we are objects of His wrath.
The fear of the Lord can be found all throughout the bible and it really comes down to how seriously do we believe the words that are in it (His word)? If we do believe it, then how are we responding? And if you have responded, then how is your life reflecting it?
